Our Mission
The Prudential Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, a subsidiary of Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU)
In 2009, The Foundation invested $22.5 million in grants in efforts that support the revitalization of communities and Prudential employees' community engagement efforts. Read the Prudential Community Resources Annual Report.
To promote sustainable communities and improve social outcomes for community residents, The Prudential Foundation focuses its grant-making strategy on the areas of education, economic development, and arts and civic infrastructure.
Education

- Education leadership to support reform in public education by increasing the capacity of educators, parents, and community residents to implement public school reform
- Youth development to build skills and competencies needed for young people to be productive citizens
Economic Development

- Workforce development programs to train and place individuals in high-demand occupations
- Business development opportunities to create and grow businesses
- Community revitalization initiatives to strengthen community development corporations (CDCs)
Arts & Civic Infrastructure

- Arts as an economic engine and as a quality-of-life issue to ensure that residents have access to quality arts programs
- Capacity-building activities for nonprofit organizations to ensure their sustainability and growth
Community Focus

The Prudential Foundation focuses its efforts in the following locations:
- Newark, NJ and Hartford, CT. The Foundation makes significant investments through a combination of local and national partners to improve education, promote economic development, support the arts, and build the capacity of nonprofit organizations. The Newark Community Building Fund is a special initiative that supports grassroots organizations working to improve Newark residents' neighborhoods and quality of life.
- Philadelphia, PA; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; and Los Angeles, CA. In these locations, the Foundation looks for opportunities to improve education and engage in economic development efforts.
- Dallas and Houston, TX; Dubuque, IA; Jacksonville, FL; Minneapolis, MN; Phoenix, AZ; and Scranton, PA. The Foundation focuses its efforts on education and/or economic development programs that provide opportunities for Prudential associates to be engaged.
- Special Project: New Orleans, LA. The Foundation will continue its work in New Orleans focused on education and economic development in support of rebuilding efforts.
- International. The Foundation is addressing local needs in other countries, including Brazil, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Taiwan.
